Monika Pociūtė, 2023

The building on Laisves 3 can be distinguished from other buildings around it by the ornamental nature of its facade. It is known that the building was constructed in 1932. However, unfortunately, there is no information regarding the architect of the building or the owners. Furthermore, it is not possible to find the original blueprints either.

The building has four storeys which include a ground floor and three floors on top. At the front facade of the building, there is a fascinating rhythm achieved by different roof parapet levels. While the central axis is the highest, the axis next to the centre is the lowest. The height of the parapets at the corners is at the interim level. Therefore, it creates a movement on the facade.

The central axis, which contains the entrance of the building, is divided into three parts. In the middle part, which is wider than the other two, there is the entrance door. The entrance door is relatively behind the main surface, which was achieved by a band of four mouldings that creates a perspective. Furthermore, the door is also on top of a platform which can be reached by climbing the five steps. Therefore, the entrance is emphasised explicitly by design. On top of the door, there is a window which is three storeys high with transoms at the floor levels. On all three parts of the central axis, there are arches with tulip motifs under them, which were made of plasters. It should be noted that tulips are common motifs in Kaunas interwar buildings, and they were used both in the exterior and interior. The back facade of the building is plain and contains six balconies. The plan of the building is similar to the residential buildings constructed at the time with servant staircases.

Today, the building is used for residential purposes.
