Residential Building of Pauliukoniai

Kaunas, Lithuania

1 of 6

This residential building was designed and built in 1929 according to the project of engineer-technologist Leonas Ritas. The plan of the building is rectangular. The main facade is symmetrical and has a rather ornate and conservative appearance, typical of the historicist style, which was still prevalent in the architecture of Kaunas at that time. The central part of the facade is emphasized by the main entrance decorated with pilasters and a pediment and two deep loggias with semicircular lower parts above it. In the central part, verticality is emphasized, which is marked by rows of narrow windows, between which there are decorative elements in the form of floral silhouettes. The side parts of the main facade are accentuated by two-story semi circular bay windows. As usual for the buildings of that era, the lower and upper parts of the facade are emphasized by horizontal lines of plinth and cornice. It is worth emphasizing that the exterior of the building is somewhat similar to another one of the same function designed by Leonas Ritas at a similar time, which stands at the corner of Vytauto avenue and Laisves boulevard.
