House of Sližiai

Kaunas, Lithuania
New-Project-85-1.jpg
1 of 6

It is a small two-story residential house with an irregular plan, which was designed by architect Stasys Kudokas in 1931. The house is made of bricks and has a plastered exterior. It consists of a main two-story body and a vertical turret attached to it. The architecture of the house is conservative, similar to Italian Renaissance houses. The main facade is decorative. In the corners there is an imitation of rustic blocks, pilaster-shaped planes, the facade also has two decorative arches and rectangular niches. The asymmetric composition of the building is emphasized by the turret on the side, separated by a narrow vertical window. A large archway accentuates the corner entrance. As is typical of buildings of the period, the upper part is highlighted by a wide cornice and a high tiled roof. The side parts of the house are much simpler in appearance and have almost no decor. This house is one of the earliest buildings designed by Stasys Kudokas in Kaunas. It is likely that the conservative architecture of the building was determined by the architect's taste and the influence of his architectural studies in Italy.
