Tado Ivanausko Obelyne

"Obelyne" is a homestead of the famous professor of natural history - Tadas Ivanauskas (1882-1970). Being a nature enthusiast, in 1920, he purchased an 8-ha land next to Kaunas and built a house, and farm building. Also, established a garden, arboretum and a dendropark on the bank of Nemunas River.

The main building itself is something from a fairy tale: the frost facade is met with a tower with a viewing balcony and is covered with a cone roof. The porch is decorated with a fence, which reminds similar to the ones found in traditional Lithuanian wooden houses. The main building is an interpretation of a small cottage manor.

A memorial homestead museum of T. Ivanauskas was established here in 1973 and received the status of a historical monument of landscape architecture of republican significance.
