The Czechoslovakian embassy was built between 1974 and 1978 by Vera and Vladimir Machonin in collaboration with Klaus Patzmannas an outstanding example of the brutalist style. The building in East Berlin was inaugurated in February 1979. The building has a square floor plan with an edge length of 48 m. The first floor protrudes above the ground floor, the building seems to float through the elevation. The angularly bent window bands with the dark mirroring look futuristic and the building was referred to an UFO. The furniture - red and orange artificial leather armchairs and lighting fixtures in the 1970s style - designed especially for the new building - is still there and has hardly changed since the opening. After dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992, the Czech Republic took over the property and the Slovak Embassy moved to Friedrichstrasse 60.
