Checkerboard house was the first bourgeois residential building for rent in Ljubljana. It was formed from two related rental houses. Josip Costaperaria had the the role of the architect and also co-investor. The house presents a modern attitude towards elements: flat roof , geometric abstract facade, window surround the corner of the house. The ground floor plan is designed traditionally: with rooms oriented to the street and service set with room for maid in the yard.
