The vicinity of the Nemunas River and the immense pine forests enticed the educator and mathematician Jonas Mašiotas with their charm. After returning from Russia in 1919, he taught at the Marijampolė gymnasium. In 1922, he studied mathematics at the universities of Berlin and Zurich. Later he worked at the Kaunas "Aušra" boys' gymnasium, and in 1943 he was appointed a senior teacher in Vilkija. In 1936, Jonas approached the architect Vytautas Landsbergis-Zemkalnis to design a permanent house in Kačerginė, and in 1937, together with his wife Veronika, they moved into their new house. Unfortunately, the exact date of the construction is unknown for the building on J. Janonio 38.

The Mašiotai family has been well-respected in Lithuania; since the national revival. It was full of active public figures, educators, and promoters of culture and science. Jonas Mašiotas's father, Pranas (1863-1940), was a pedagogue and writer. Older Kačergine residents remember the writer Pranas Mašiotas, who used to write in the gazebo and interact with children and was affectionately known by everyone as the "Grandfather of Fairy Tales". This corner of the pine forest and the homestead are still respectfully referred to as 'Mašiotyne'. His pupil, V. Landsbergis-Zemkalnis, wrote the following about his teacher: "Teacher Pranas Mašiotas was greatly loved and respected by teachers and pupils. He was always in a good mood, smiling." So, in gratitude to his teacher, the architect designed a house in Kaunas for Jonas' father Pranas, where he lived from 1929 to 1940.

After 1990, Mašiotas's granddaughter, B. Mašiotaitė-Kronienė, donated the summer house and a plot of land of about 1 hectare that she had inherited from her father Jonas to the town of Kačerginė on the condition that the summer house would be maintained and the memory of the Mašiotas would be cherished there. In 2002, the Pranas and Jonas Mašiotes Memorial Society began its activities in Kačerginė, fostering cultural heritage and creating a 'Fairy Tale Park' in the park next to the house, where various characters of the author come to life. The Society organizes children's creative camps and works with the community to create visions for the future of Mašiotynė.

The summerhouse itself is a relatively small building with a ground floor and an attic. It is a wooden structure with wooden horizontal cladding. The original wooden windows also had horizontal bands divided into four. However, some of the windows were changed into PVC frames, which affected the authenticity of the building.
