The project of the Kaunas County Public Library was prepared in 1977 by the architect B. Zabulionis.

Impressive size library can serve about 300,000 people a year, and its collections hold about 1.8 million books. The building is in Azuolynas park.

The main composition of the facade is asymmetrical, its emphasis is the staircase and two curved volumes that contrast with the rectangular forms of this building. The volume of the main library building is four stories, and the composition of the facades is based on the repetitive rhythm of windows. Post modernistic style of the architecture of the library building manifests as an allusion of a defensive medieval castle.

Inside the library, you can find marble decor, terrazzo and wooden parquet floors, and a unique pyramid-shaped light fixture.

Currently, the building is undergoing restoration. It's planned to preserve its aesthetic and cultural value. The facade of the building will not change much, as the red brick look of the building has become iconic to Kaunas' landscape. Substantial changes will only occur to the balconies above the main stairs to the library, which will become an attractive space for visitors. Inside, the authentic interior details of the library will be preserved.
