By Monika Pociūtė, 2023.

The tall former hotel building on Vytauto Avenue was built in the 1960s. It is the first object of such purpose built in Kaunas during the Soviet era. The building consists of two perpendicularly connected rectangular volumes of different sizes - a nine-story main block and a smaller one-story cafe and restaurant block. The exterior of the building is functional, reflecting the architectural trends of the time. The structure of the building is made of reinforced concrete, which determines its appearance. It consists of a laconic rhythm of wide horizontal window bands and narrow, gray-colored wall planes. Covered recreation premises were installed on the flat roof, the curved shape of which slightly diversifies the austere appearance of the building. On the first floor of the building there were administrative premises, and on the upper floors there were rooms for the guests. The rooms are connected by a two-way corridor. About 330 guests could stay in this building at the same time.

During the period of independence, the former hotel building was converted into a student dormitory. It is one of the many examples of functionalism that dominated the architecture of Kaunas in the 1960s.
