The small resort town of Kacergine still preserves the memory of the man who is one of the classics of Lithuanian literature today. Writer Vincas Mykolaitis Putinas discovered Kacergine in the late years of his life. From 1961 until he died, he spent his summers here with his wife. Today, the house where he used to live stands on the street, which is called by his name.
The building, which is located on plot 34, is a two-storey house with a wooden structure. The house is divided for two families: the Putinas family, and the family of Balciunai, who is the family of Vincas's wife Emilija's sister. The construction of the house finished in three years. The ground floor has relatively large windows, which are divided into five by horizontal elements. There are balconies on the first floor. The facade is covered by wooden horizontal claddings.
The Kacerginians who lived at that time still remember the poet standing by the window and observing the environment, walking the paths along the forest or sitting on the balcony of the house with a book. The writer appreciated the music, knew a lot about it and played the piano himself. If the conversation went smoothly with him, it was very interesting to discuss.
