Two architecturally impressive buildings frame the street intersection in front of the Railway station, often titled the "modernist city gateway". One of them is a three-storey residential building owned by businessmen Volfas and Romas (Vytautas av. 1), the other is also a three-storey former building of the hotel "Locarno", later "Lozana". The latter was built by Kazimieras Pocius, an American Lithuanian. The building project was prepared in 1930, its author is civil engineer Aleksandras Gordevicius. It is a building with an irregular angular plan, with a modernist aesthetic on the exterior. It is created by a horizontal articulation given by the wide window openings and many narrow bands, which surround the entire facade of the building. The corner part of the building is emphasized by the characteristic accent of the architecture of that period - a streamlined corner. As soon as it was built, the building immediately became an important accent of one of the main streets of the city. Most of the premises in the building were occupied by the hotel. There was also a restaurant on the first floor where a jazz band and a small orchestra entertained visitors. During the 1930s, the owner of the building changed, and the hotel was renamed "Lozana". In 1938, a three-story annex was added to the building, the architecture of which echoed the appearance of the main building. The extension project was prepared by engineer-architect Grigorijus Gumeniukas. After being abandoned for a long time, this building has recently been renovated, preserving the original architecture.
