The gymnasium forms part of the Grundschule auf dem Tempelhofer Feld primary school newly built in the 1950s. Today, it is one of many buildings from that era that are in need of rehabilitation but fail to get listed, although its construction and design, notwithstanding limited resources, exudes a surprisingly sensual lightness that perfectly conveys a belief in political renewal.

The gymnasium's alteration and reconstruction allow for its long-hidden qualities to be restored and further enhanced thanks to modern knowledge on spatial perception. The result is a place in which physical exercise can again be a joyful interaction of body, soul, and space.
