Renato Nicolini

Nicolini has been an italian architect, politician, and dramaturg. His diverse career spans former positions as head of the Cultural Department for the City of Rome, member of the Italian Parliament, and head of the Department of City Identity for Naples. Inventor of the "Estate Romana" festival in the late 1970s, he also directed the Volterra Teatro and served as President of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. Nicolini has written and performed in theater, radio, and cinema. Among his publications are L'architettura di Roma Capitale (with Fraticelli and Accasto, Roma, 1971); L'architettura delle citta nuove (Latina, 1987); Estate Romana (Siena, 1990).

Architecture

He graduated in architecture by Ludovico Quaroni in 1969, with the thesis "Realization of an exhibition structure in the place of the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II". Between 1967 and 1968, before obtaining his degree, he wrote several articles in the Dictionary of Architecture and Urban Planning, directed by Paolo Portoghesi. He built a public house in Aprilia in 1979 (with Gianni Accasto, Pierluigi Eroli and Franco Pierluisi). His projects have been published in "Controspazio" and "Casabella". Among the competition projects, the Forli Theater (1970, admitted to the second degree), the arrangement of the Paris Halles (leader Franco Purini, winner ex aequo).From 2006 to 2012 was editor and then director of Controspazio.

Academic Teaching and Research

He was a professor at the "Mediterranea" University of Reggio Calabria. He also conduct research in the Department of "Architecture and Analysis of the Mediterranean City". He was a member of the Academic Board of the Research Doctorate in "Planning and Planning of the Mediterranean City", a member of the Council of Professors of the School of Higher Education in "Architecture and Archeology of the Classical City", director of the University Theater Workshop "le Nozze".

He was also a lecturer of the International Master's Degree II Architecture History Project at the University of Roma Tre and lecturer of the II level International Master in Planning of Recovery of Historical Building and Public Spaces, of the First Faculty of Architecture "Ludovico Quaroni University La Sapienza ". From 1988 until 1996 he was Vice President of the " Festival dei Due Mondi " Foundation in Spoleto. From 1996 to 2000 he was Commissioner of the Teatro Stabile dell'Aquila. From 1998 to 2000 he was President of the Autonomous Company Palaexpo of Rome. For the Calabria Region, he was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Regional Observatory for Culture. He was also a member of the Scientific Committee of UBU Books. He was a member of the editorial board of the magazine "L'architetto italiano".

He usually wrote about theater and architecture on "Gomorra", "Abitare la Terra", "Topos e Progetto", "L'Unita", "Il Manifesto", "Il Romanista" and "Paese Sera". His appearances and cameos are known to him in some films and music videos.
