Afrikanischestrasse housing in Berlin 15-41 consists of four similar three story apartment buildings from 1926-1927. They are Mies most important contribution to the innovative social housing development. Mies varied their cubic forms with the arrangement of windows and with curved balconies that connect each building with eat-in kitchens and bathrooms, then far from typical for worker housing. This is Mies most substantial project from Berlin in the 1920s, and one of his rare contributions to low-cost housing.
