The shopping street is located at the U-Bahn station 'Onkel Toms Hutte' in Berlin. It was constructed in 1929 from a need that arose for amenities and shops for the local residents of the housing complex Onkel Toms Hutte.
In 2012 the shopping street was undergoing an assessment for revitalisation. This detailed analysis was carried out by Berlin-based architect firm, Code of Practice. Lead by Stanley Fuls, a series of investigations and measurements have been undertaken to enable the production of a set of comprehensive planning documents for the first time since the original construction period. During the investigation a number of previously hidden original details were uncovered.
Based on the assessment immediate measures were implemented to improve the quality of experience. In agreement with the local heritage authority, advertising billboards have been removed along with interior repainting.
