The Mist Fountain is in many ways a reaction towards the competition requirements calling for a water sculpture in the newly gentrified centre of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The requirements for water sculpture connected to »genius loci« of the city called for a design as the uppermost layer of the tourist infrastructure that is more and more impoverishing the diversity of the city. The design awarded with the second prize articulated The Monument to Ljubljana Fog that is both extensive (covering the whole competition area) and ephemeral (consisting of vaporized water). In this way the recently paved promenade would be minimally disturbed; the monument to the natural phenomenon typical to Ljubljana would interpret the genius loci as broadly and literally as possible; and finally, the intervention would be completely invisible when not in action. (2nd prize)
