The FIAT building was created at the time of the full impact of a totalitarian ideology for the Italian industrial giant. Zlokovic doesn't uses the direct paradigm of rationalism in the building but combine the syntax of Italian rationalism with his own selected quotations. Raising the roadway boulevard JNA (now Boulevard Liberation) in 1971 the ground floor of the building was obscured so FIAT is no longer seen in full force and proportion.

The building is made up of three parts for different requirements: residential block with an exhibition car showroom, garage and workshop. Garages and workshops are organized production lines along the side street. The most prominent part of the building with showroom occupies exposed angular position, while the residential part is common front of the main street. The three parts are formally articulated in terms of their function as well as a distinctive architectural units.

The building is designed in a skeleton of reinforced concrete system. Roof terraces are insulated with three layers of leathery paper and 4 coats of bitumen. Over the insulation were laid cast concrete slabs. The lower part of the facade facing the street is covered with natural stone slabs while the upper part is covered by brick. The entrance with a staircase is in reinforced concrete with marble cladding. While working within the usual modernist discourse, Zlokovic departed from the pure "white" aesthetics of earlier works.
