The DANS Arhitekti architectural studio was founded in 2004 by Miha Desman, Katarina Pirkmajer Desman, Eva Fiser Berlot, Rok Bogataj, and Vlatka Ljubanovic, a collective of architects who had formerly collaborated on various projects. Today their practice pays special attention to the social dimension. DANS projects thus focus on schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and buildings for people with special needs.
Some of the recent work includes the centre for elderly people Hospic, a children's department and occupational therapy space at the Institute for Rehabilitation, and the footbridge across the Ljubljanica River at Spica - all in Ljubljana.
Architects Katarina Pirkmajer and Miha Desman previously worked at the Atelje Desman-Pirkmajer studio. Both studied at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana with Professor Marjan Music before undertaking additional studies at the Institute for Urbanism and Architecture in Venice. They are members of the DESSA Architecture Centre and have also been engaged as independent architects.
Miha Desman has also been engaged in graphic design (book design) and writes about architecture in his capacity as Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Architects' Bulletin (ab). He is actively engaged in the work of the Architects' Society of Ljubljana (DAL) and the Union of Slovene Architects' Societies.
