Javier Carvajal got a title of architect in 1953 by the School of Architecture of Madrid. From 1955 to 1957 he lived in Rome and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts.

He won the competition for the contest of the Spanish pavilion in world's Fair in New York in 1963 which brought him international recognition after the realization of the project.

Teaching

His teaching career includes his beginning position as an assistant professor at the School of Architecture of Madrid. In 1968 he became a professor of Menendez Pelayo International University of Santander and in 1971 professor of Town Planning courses Institute of Local Government of Madrid. In 1972 he was appointed Director of the School of Barcelona, in 1974 he became Director of the School of Architecture of Las Palmas and in 1976 Professor of Projects of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. In 1997 he was appointed Professor Emeritus of the School of Architecture of Madrid.

Three periods of his career

In his work we could point three periods; the first two were connected with the construction of the pavilion of New York, where he stayed; and the third was connected with the construction of the Tower of Valencia, coinciding with the intensification of their teaching commitment to different schools of architecture in Spain and abroad.
