Anja Planiscek

Anja Planiscek graduated from the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture (1998) and completed her postgraduate studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London (2002). She is currently working as associate professor at Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana and as practicing architect. In the 1990s she cofounded Trajekt, web magazine for socialization of architecture in Slovenia. She is involved in many projects, her fields of work include architectural education, design, visual arts, writing, curating and production of events related to architecture (exhibitions, workshops, web projects). Specific focus of Anja is architecture of social engagement, housing politics, socialization of architecture, Slovenian architecture in the period of socialism.

Architecture Works and Teaching at Faculty of Architecture Ljubljana

Anja's architecture design include the renovation of Kino Siska Centre for Urban Culture (with Nena Gabrovec) in Ljubljana (2009), part-renovation of Spanski borci Cultural Centre (with Primoz Borsic and Matej Delak)in Ljubljana (2010), kindergarden Pedenjped (with Maja Ivanic, Andraz Intihar, Ursa Habic) in Ljubljana (2013-2017; under construction).

As a associate professor she teaches at Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and is involved in study and design projects in Africa. Worth to mention is the design and construction of classroom and library in Ithuba Skills College in Johannesburg, South African Republic (2010, with 20 students, 4 mentors, 20 local workers), design and construction of multipurpose hall in Ithuba Primary School - Johannesburg, South African Republic (2011, with 15 students, 4 mentors, 20 local workers), small interventions in Kornati Islands nautic point, Croatia (2015, with 15 students, 2 mentors), the design and construction of Amasiko Halfway house for street children in Kabale, Uganda (2016, with 20 students, 5 mentors, 25 local workers), living room, Asylum for men migrants in Kotnikova, Ljubljana (2016, with 10 students, migrants, 2 mentors).

Visual Art and Curation of Exhibitions

She is very active as well in the field of visual art and curating, where she executed project like Code Red: Sector Zagreb, Working Unit Z 01 (with artist Tadej Pogacar) at Galerija Nova, Zagreb, Croatia (2003-04), BS-3 Radio Guided Tour, exhibition Museum in the Street, Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana (2008); Homes I Have Not Been To in Johannesburg and Ljubljana (2010-11), Architecture under Construction, exhibition Crisis and New Beginnings: Art in Slovenia 2005-2015, Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana (with Katarina Caks).

As a curator she prepared exhibition Architect Ilija Arnautovic - Socialism in Slovenian Architecture (with Andrej Mercina) at Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana (2006), exhibition At Home - Architects Marta and France Ivansek (with Martina Malesic) at Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana (2010), exhibition Studio UP / Discharge (with Maja Ivanic) at Dessa Gallery, Ljubljana (2014), exhibition At Home in Ljubljana - 100 Years of Ljubljana Housing (with Martina Malesic, Klemen Plostajner)at Dessa Gallery, Ljubljana (2015).

Trajekt

Project which are related to socialization of architecture includes co-founding of NGO Trajekt - Institute for Spatial Culture, which she leads as a editor. She created the web guide of Slovenian architecture, project PuzzleTheHouse (with Martina Malesic and students of architecture), RogLab, Ljubljana (2014), photographic project It Was : It is (with Martina Malesic, Peter Rauch and students of photography) at Dessa Gallery, Ljubljana (2014).

Cooperative Housing

In the field of housing politics Anja co-organised several events and projects: New Perspectives of Housing - conference/exhibition /publication (Ljubljana, 2004), Housing Non-Politics - exhibition /publication (ZAPS; together with Mika Cimolini, Matevz Celik, Ljubljana, 2010), Kick-Start Home - Housing for the Young - collaborative study project / exhibition / publication (Faculty of Architecture; together with Ana Krec, Ljubljana 2014), Housing Cooperatives - an Opportunity for Slovenia - conference / workshop / publication (Zavod Trajekt, Cooperative Zadrugator, Network for Space, Faculty of Architecture; Ljubljana 2016) and writes articles for various publications.

From 2015 she is part of initiative for development of cooperative housing in Slovenia. In collaboration of Co-op Zadrugator and Design Studio at the Faculty of Architecture several student projects and co-op models were developed.
