Helena Kottler Vurnik was a painter and decorator. She studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 1910 she received a six-month scholarship to study in Italy. After returning in Vienna she opened her own studio and worked as a drawer in the Viennese daily newspaper Extrablatt. In 1913 she married Ivan Vurnikom. In 1915 they moved to Radovljica and in 1919 to Ljubljana. She was from a heritage of Art Nouveau and Symbolism. Both are adapted to the expression of sacred places and ideas of the so-called Slovenian national style.
