Italian architect and theorist. She studied at the Universita La Sapienza, Rome. Her early collaboration with Franco Purini on an urban project (1966; unexecuted) for the bank of the River Tiber in Rome led to a long partnership between the two. As a theorist, Thermes attempted to unite the legacy of 20th-century Rationalism, particularly the experiments of the Russian Constructivists, the elementarism of the early Le Corbusier and the work of the Italian Gruppo.

Since 1989 she is full professor of Architectural Composition at the Faculty of Architecture of Reggio Calabria, from 1999 to 2005 she was Director of the Department of Art, Science and Technique of Construction and since 1999 she has been the coordinator of the Doctorate of Architectural and Urban Design. Since 2002 she has been the scientific manager of the International Laboratories of Architecture (LIDA). She has held numerous courses as a visiting professor at the North American Faculty of Architecture and in Mozambique and in 2002 was invited to participate in the International Itinerant Convention for the Foundation of the Catholic University of Lima. Since 2009 he is Academician of San Luca.
