Block 270 is a residential block development in Berlin. Designed by late Berlin architect Josef Paul Kleihues.
Already in 1972, Josef Paul Kleihues gave the city the idea of a closed building block with the "Block 270" in the centre of Berlin. Block 270 was a criticism in planning of the dogmas of modern urbanism since the 1920s.
Block 270 can be seen as a starting point to the works of Kleiheus as director of the "IBA nue bau", the new part of the international building exhibition of the eighties in West Berlin (IBA Berlin 1987).
Destroyed and buried traces of urban development from the historical buildings were uncovered and made to be experienced again through additional new buildings - this was also directed against the ignorance of modern history.
