In the 1960s, it became imperative that the Kyiv National University acquire more space for its greatly expanded number of departments. It was with this in mind that the construction of a complex of new buildings for the university started on the southwestern outskirts of Kyiv (opposite the National Exhibition Centre of Ukraine). The authors of the final project were architects V. Ladnyi, Michail Budilovsky, V. Kolomiets and the engineer V. Drizo. The Physics Department of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev and the Faculty of Cybernetic were constructed by Michail Budilovsky.
