The House in Newton Road is one of the first works of Denys Lasdun conducted between 1937 and 1939 for the painter FJ Conway. It was while he was working for Wells Coates, when Lasdun got this first independent order of importance. Conway wanted a modern house, and Lasdun was inspired by the Cook house of Le Corbusier. Newton Road house is symmetrical. The front door is in the center, just behind the pillar, and the entrance hall leads directly to a staircase at the back of it.
