Paulo Jacobsen

Jacobsen Arquitetura was formed as a result of Bernardes + Jacobsen Arquitetura dissolving in 2012. Since 1976 the architecture studio has had several variations of partnerships lead by Paulo Jacobsen.

Jacobsen Arquitetura has three directors including Paulo Jacobsen, his son Bernardo Jacobsen and Eza Viegas as the head of the interior department.

The Partners

Paulo Jacobsen was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1954 and graduated in 1975 from Universidade Bennett. He went on to intern with architect Sergio Bernardes and in 1976 he opened an architectural studio with Sergio's son, Claudio called Claudio Bernardes and Jacobsen Architecture. The practice grew to include an office in Sau Paulo however in 2001 Claudio Bernardes was killed in a car accident. Claudio's son then joined the practice, followed by Paulo's son Bernardo in 2010. In 2012 the partnership with Bernardes ends and Jacobsen Arquitetura is formed.

Bernardo Jacobsen is the son of Paulo Jacobsen, he was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1980 and graduated in 2004 from the Universidade Federal of Rio de Janeiro. Bernardo then worked with Christian de Portzamparc in Paris. In 2005 Bernardo joined architect Shigeru Ban. In 2007 Bernardo returned to Brazil and began working for his father as a creative project coordinator, becoming a partner in 2010.

Eva Viegas studied history at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro. She went on to work as an interior designer with Claudio Bernardes from 1971 to 1974. In 1981 she opened a landscape design company which is today known as MT Paisagismo. In 2005 Eva began working as the head of the interior department for Bernardes & Jacobsen, becoming a partner of Jacobsen Arquitetura in 2012.
