One of Walter Gropius' earlier works still shows expressionist influences which was apparent during the first years of the Bauhaus. Nevertheless the Otte House is an important step towards the functionalist architecture which was to become the trademark of Bauhaus architecture. In a reconstruction effort in 1990s, the house was restored to its original state.
