The children’s library "Drugarche" is among the numerous buildings dedicated to cultural institutions, built during the renewal of Skopje after the earthquake in 1963. This short but very intensive period was aimed not only to compensate for the loss caused by the earthquake, but to introduce significant improvement of the condition and standard, especially in the field of education and culture. The children’s library "Drugarche" has the goal to make the literature more accessible and especially to bring it closer to the youngest readers.

Although the institution was founded in November 1954, until the construction of the new premises (1971-75), the library operated in a temporary space which could not meet its complex program and spatial requirements. Built on a location opposite the high school “Nikola Karev”, the building has elongated prismatic geometry and clear functional organization, with over 2.500 m2 provided for storage of the book fund, large reading spaces, individual reading rooms and work spaces, cinema hall, administration and services.
