This building is located on a 622 sq. meter piece of land, on a hill at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake in Yamanashi, Japan. The small wooden house is called 'Atelier for calligrapher' and was designed by Japanese firm Kochi Architect's Studio.
With a compact 62 square meter floor space, this one-of-a-kind house consists of two floors, a large atelier space and a small villa, as well as a roof terrace overlooking the surrounding rice fields.
The unique form of the structure consists of a sloped, over hanged volume to the north, providing the residents with a better outlook of the surrounding views while eliminating the need for heavy snow maintenance.
