SO-IL is an internationally recognized architecture and design firm based in New York. It works across countries and cultures. The team speaks more than a dozen languages. They create urban spaces, buildings for culture, residences, and workplaces on a variety of scales. They designed Manhattan offices, a tent to house the Frieze Art Fair, innovative furniture for Knoll, a revitalized public square in Paris, and many other projects. SO-IL was founded by Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu in 2008, and has been led with partner Ilias Papageorgiou since 2013.
Jing Liu (1980) is a Chinese architect based in US. She received her education in China, Japan United Kingdom, and USA where she graduated in Architecture from Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans. She has taught at Columbia University's GSAPP, Syracuse University, School of Architecture, and at Parsons The New School for Design. Liu worked at New York based Kohn Pedersen Fox and Starwood prior to establish SO - IL with Florian Idenburg in New York in 2008. Her firm won the MoMA PS1 YAP in 2010.
