Born in Guangzhou (Canton), China, Mr. Wong was educated in Los Angeles, graduating from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps and was on active duty in the South Pacific as lead crew navigator/radar bombardier with the 20th Air Force, participating in major air battles over Japan in 1945. Upon completion his military service, he attended the University of Southern California, graduating from the USC School of Architecture in 1950, where he won the first Producer's Council Design Award. He immediately began work with one of the country's most prominent architectural firms, Pereira & Luckman Associates. He rose to Vice President of Design for Pereira & Luckman, and in 1958, helped found William L. Pereira & Associates, rising to president of the firm. Under his aegis as President and Partner-in-Charge, the firm designed such landmark buildings as the Transamerica Pyramid building in San Francisco, CBS Television City and Union Oil Center, both inn Los Angeles.

He also served as Director og Design for the original Los Angeles International Airport, completed in 1957. Gin was one of the youngest architects to be advanced to Fellowship in the field of design. He has received many design awardsfrom AIA and ather professional associations and recently received the Construction Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he has been a board member of numerous California organisations. He is a past president of the USC School of Architecture's Architectural Guild and a recipient of the USC Alumni Association's Merit Award. He has served on the USC Board of Trusteessince 1983 and is currently a Life Trustee.
