KWY is a multidisciplinary platform investigating the nature of collaboration within the context of specific projects. It was founded by architects Ben Allen and Ricardo Gomes in Berlin, and curator and editor James Bae in Los Angeles. Projects include collaborations between artists, writers, curators, educators, designers and architects. Each project begins with dialogue and analysis between the collaborators. This process-oriented methodology often leads to diverse thoughts that are otherwise unexpected and unimaginable.
Ricardo Gomes (1978) studied architecture in Lisbon between 1995 and 2001. He worked at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, from 2005 to 2011 with the artist Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. Between 2011 and 2014 he was an assistant professor at the UDK in Berlin and since 2015 he teaches art at DIS Copenhagen. He lives in Lisbon and Copenhagen.
James Bae was born in Tokyo (1975) and lived in the US since 1982. Studied at Yale and the University of California at Berkeley between 1992 and 1998 and lived in Marfa from 2004 to 2006. He is contributing editor of Paper Monument, a journal based in New York. He has recently opened and is director of the Grice Bench gallery in Los Angeles, where he lives working as a writer and curator.
