Description Change this

The Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (Russian: Информационное телеграфное агентство России, Informatsionnoye telegrafnoye agentstvo Rossii; abbr. ИТАР-ТАСС, ITAR-TASS), is the major news agency of Russia with the headquarter in Moscow.

From 1918 to 1925 it served as the first revolutionary news agency and was known as the Russian Telegraph Agency, or ROSTA.
On July 10, 1925 the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS) was renamed and took over the main functions of the Russian Telegraph Agency as the central information agency of the country. In January 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the proclamation of sovereignty by democratic Russia, the news agency was named into the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (ITAR-TASS). Today ITAR-TASS is a major world news agency and preserves the status of the central state information agency of the country.
