Description Change this

“Casa Bunker” is a private house designed in 1967 by the Italian architect Cini Boeri along the coasts of of La Maddalena, a small island located in northern Sardinia. The house, built for her family in an area particularly exposed to strong winds, was designed in continuity with the peculiar rocky structure of the coastline of the Golfo dell’Abbatoggia: the building literally stands on the rocky cliffs facing the sea, appearing as a natural extension of the Mediterranean landscape.
Following the slope of the land, indeed, Casa Bunker naturally adapts to the cliffs generating different internal levels where the openings are specifically conceived to protect the house from the external atmospheric agents. Moreover, in order to enhance the ‘landscape camouflage’, the architect opted to cover the reinforced concrete structure with a grey plaster that brings to mind the old ships paint.

As Cini Boeri says, Casa Bunker is the project that better represents her idea of architecture, as she was at the same time the project’s architect and client. The floorplan layout is based on a square, which is opened to the sea trough a patio on the north-east side, while four private rooms, all equipped with bathrooms, overlook the living room: the central area facing the patio, where all the collective activities take place. The floorplan layout, the presence of a bathroom and of an independent exit for each bedroom, clearly expresses Cini Boeri’s main interest: designing an house that could favour a total independence of the inhabitants.
