Description Change this

The best known sports facility designed by Hajós is the swimming stadion built on Margitsziget (Margaret Island) in the Danube in Budapest, which was built in 1930. It was the first covered swimming pool in Hungary.

In 1937 Ferenc Csonka made the plans of the opened contest pool. Unfortunately in 1983-84 the covered part of the pools had to be rebuilt because the high humidity caused serious destruction on the building’s consistency. During the reconstruction, the big pool - the only part of the swimming pool made of bauxite - had to be completely pulled down. A new pool with strung water surface took its place.

Between 1999 and 2002 a full restoration of the Alfréd Hajós Swimming Pool was required.

The swimming pool lies on an area of 79242 sqm. The building has got four floors with eight swimming pools and four pools work as children pools.
